What do you all think of the word evidence as a verb?

Once in high school, I used it as a verb and my English teacher told me that it was WRONG WRONG WRONG because evidence is a NOUN!

Well oh my goodness! My dictionary says it can be a VERB!

verb [ trans. ] (usu. be evidenced) be or show evidence of : that it has been populated from prehistoric times is evidenced by the remains of Neolithic buildings.

I was reading a review of A Mighty Heart when I came across evidence used like this and I decided to get to the bottom of it.
